Next week, the European Environment Agency (EEA) and the European Space Agency (ESA) will organize the second edition of the conference on Earth Observation for Monitoring, Reporting and Verification of Carbon Removals (EO for MRV).
Held in Copenhagen, Denmark, on the 7-10 October 2025, the conference will bring together experts from across disciplines (scientific research, national GHG inventories, policy, and the private sector) to share insights, innovations, and experiences that support robust MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification) systems for carbon removals in the EU.
The conference will focus on the contribution of EO to the implementation of the EU Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) Regulation, the Carbon Removal and Carbon Farming (CRCF) Regulation and related initiatives in carbon markets. It will provide updates on recent EU climate policy developments and highlight recent advances in satellite, in-situ, and hybrid EO technologies relevant to carbon flux estimation and land monitoring. Practical examples of EO-driven MRV systems, including national implementation and research initiatives will be showcased.
And most of all, it will prove an excellent opportunity for stakeholder dialogue and collaboration to facilitate knowledge exchange among national inventory teams, scientists, policymakers, market actors, and other stakeholders.
Encouraged by the good experiences from last year, several FCM project partners will be participating in the conference. In addition to the FCM toolset poster and an FCM presentation in the ‘BOG 2 – Planting of Trees’ breakout group, FCM team members will be presenting on various related topics in different sessions throughout the conference.
Looking forward to seeing many of you next week! Come and talk with us. We would be happy to hear your thoughts on the FCM tools and on carbon monitoring in general.
See you in Copenhagen!
