FCM information package now available!

With today’s global challenges, it is increasingly important that science is closely integrated into our thinking and our everyday lives to support the choices we make. To highlight the significant role of science in society and foster public engagement with emerging scientific issues, the United Nations celebrates the annual World Science Day for Peace and Development on the 10th of November. The day aims to underline the importance and relevance of science in our daily lives.

One of the main goals of the World Science Day is to bring science closer to society, ensuring that citizens are informed about scientific developments. It also emphasizes the role of scientists in broadening our understanding of the Earth and building a sustainable future. In 2024 the theme of the World Science Day is “Youth at the forefront”, with a focus on young people and non-scientific participants in discovering and exploring the role of science in our rapidly-changing digitalized world.

In this spirit and with the aim to widely spread information on the tools and scientific discoveries that are made in the Forest Carbon Monitoring project, we are happy to announce that we now have an information package about the project available. The aim of the material is to reach a wider audience and potential future users of the tools. The package consists of a video, a slide set, and a brochure.

You can watch the short video on our website’s landing page. It presents the main goals of the project in a clear and engaging way, offering a high-level overview of our work and tools. It places the project within the broader context of global forest monitoring efforts, making it easy to understand the impact and importance of our contributions.

Excerpts from the information package

Figure 1. Excerpts from the information material. From left: a slide from the slide set, print brochure inner pages and print brochure cover pages.

The video is supported by the slide set, presenting more technical details of the project and the tools. The slide set aims to answer some of the more technical questions that the viewers of the video may have. It consists of eight slides and can also be run as auto-slideshow in events. You can download the slides here.

The brochure is designed as a handy trifold leaflet that can be given out in events. It presents the main points of the project in the same spirit as the video and provides links to further information sources. The brochure is provided in two versions, one suitable for printing on paper and another one adapted to online viewing. You can download the brochure here.

Feel free to study the material at your own pace. We would be happy to respond to any question that may arise after seeing the material. You may also see these materials in upcoming events playing on the screens or lying on the tables. And don’t be surprised if you see us standing at some corner in front of a big screen handing out the brochures!

Looking forward to hearing any comments and answering questions about the material.
