Forest Carbon Monitoring team participating in the Winter Satellite Workshop 2025

The Winter Satellite Workshop (WSW) is one of the largest annual Earth Observation events in Finland and the biggest New Space meeting in Scandinavia and the Baltic countries. It brings together over 500 space technology specialists, scientists and students to discuss current topics in a rapidly developing space field.

The workshop has been held annually since 2018 (formerly by the name of Finnish Satellite Workshop). This year’s edition will be held 21-23 January 2025 at the Dipoli convention centre in Espoo, Finland. The program is tightly packed with presentations and posters on New Space, small satellite missions, space science and instruments, Earth Observation and sustainable utilization of space.

A special feature of the WSW is the relaxed and social atmosphere, setting an excellent scene for networking and casual discussions leading to new interdisciplinary cooperation and innovations. In addition to the scientific program, the event hosts an extensive exhibition area, an ice-breaker party, two cocktail receptions, a sauna evening and dedicated side events. In addition, Friday 24th January there is an opportunity for excursions to Otaniemi space facilities and arranging business meetings. All in all, the event serves as a perfect opportunity to interact with potential users and a wide range of stakeholders of the Forest Carbon Monitoring tools.

As this year’s workshop also celebrates the 30 years of Finnish membership in the European Space Agency (ESA), it makes us even more proud to represent the Forest Carbon Monitoring project in the workshop. The toolbox with demonstration results and product examples will be presented in a poster session on Tuesday 21st, starting from 17:00. In addition, the information material (video, slides and brochure) will be showcased at the VTT exhibition booth throughout the workshop. Furthermore, the Forestry TEP platform where the FCM tools can run will be promoted in the VTT booth.

The FCM team will be represented in the event by people from VTT, Terramonitor and Yucatrote. Don’t hesitate to come and meet us either at the poster or at the VTT booth at any time to hear more about the FCM toolbox and the project overall. Looking forward to seeing you next week!
